ABSTRACT
The manufacture of truck bodies for vacuum applications in North America is a diverse product segment in the truck body manufacturing industry. These units can be very simple, hauling septic waste, to very complex, for cleaning sewer systems and collecting dry and wet hazardous waste. Based on the approximate number of final trucks produced in North America in 2011, this application represents an activity of around $536 million for the body fabrication companies in this segment.
The products examined in this report include hydro excavators, industrial vacuum loaders, portable toilet service units, septic tank truck bodies, sewer cleaner truck bodies and vacuum tank truck bodies (code and non-code). Septic tank truck body manufacture is the largest category in this segment; twenty-four players manufacture this product.
In 2009 sales of vacuum truck bodies decreased by an estimated 35% over the previous year. However the industry recovered marginally in 2010 and rebounded strongly in 2011. The primary factor impacting sales and demand in 2011 and 2012 was oil and gas exploration. Production of vacuum truck bodies that cater to the oil and gas industry increased by close to 50% in 2011 over 2010, spurred by the increased oil and shale gas drilling activities in various parts of the United States and Canada. In addition, the construction industry has experienced growth in recent years, and there has been an improvement in municipal demand. These factors will continue to impact the performance of this industry going forward.
STN has presented estimates of production numbers and market shares, an overview of the broad competitive picture—including standings of 54 identified manufacturers of vacuum truck bodies, segmented by body type—and the demand outlook for the industry.
These and other topics are the subject of this report from SpecialtyTransportation.net (“STN”). The report can be put to immediate use for sales and market planning, M&A identification, competitive share analysis, alliances and technology transfer considerations.
